Soooooo it's no secret that I like Harry Potter. Just a smidge. Apparently, I'm not alone. Whenever people want to read something that's similar, or maybe they aren't quite ready for the bigger volumes of 4-7, here are some books that might fit the bill:

8) The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
9) The Golden Compass (aka Northern Lights), by Phillip Pullman
10) Haroun and the Sea of Stories, by Salman Rushdie
Obviously there are so many other books that could serve as recommended reading to someone who likes/loves Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling. It depends on the person/age/what they like about the books/her writing. What are your thoughts?

Witch and Wizard series by James Patterson. I've only read the first one, but it's a pretty good read. Short chapters, captivating and somewhat complex plot, add a little romance/heart-break and you're all set.
ReplyDeleteI agree too! Witch and Wizard was pretty darn funny. I love this TTT, but a Wrinkle in Time is my absolute favorite on this list!

Hey, i really like your list! I especially love Inkheart - I'm just reading it to my little brother right now. Have to say, though, that I wasn't a big fan of the sequel and gave up on the series :(
ReplyDeleteLove the Witches and the Wrinkle in Time recs! Totally agree!For adults, I'd throw in Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. That novel seems to live in the same type of world as Harry Potter.

You know Savvy gets checked out a lot in my Media Center! I've never read it. I'm probably the only person who wasn't a fan of A Wrinkle in Time though. I think I was too young when it was assigned and I hated it! Oh well, we all have different tastes! :) I'll have to snag Savvy one day!
