Soooooo it's no secret that I like Harry Potter.  Just a smidge.  Apparently, I'm not alone.  Whenever people want to read something that's similar, or maybe they aren't quite ready for the bigger volumes of 4-7, here are some books that might fit the bill:

More lists and author choices at The Broke and the Bookish!

  1. Witch and Wizard series by James Patterson. I've only read the first one, but it's a pretty good read. Short chapters, captivating and somewhat complex plot, add a little romance/heart-break and you're all set.

    1. I agree too! Witch and Wizard was pretty darn funny. I love this TTT, but a Wrinkle in Time is my absolute favorite on this list!

  2. GREAT list! The Percy Jackson series is so good! I've been meaning to read the Heroes of Olympus series, but I haven't gotten around to it yet!

For older Harry Potter fans, I would also recommend Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller series...coming-of-age story meets magic, love & adventure :)

  3. Hey, i really like your list! I especially love Inkheart - I'm just reading it to my little brother right now. Have to say, though, that I wasn't a big fan of the sequel and gave up on the series :(

  4. Love the Witches and the Wrinkle in Time recs! Totally agree! For adults, I'd throw in Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. That novel seems to live in the same type of world as Harry Potter.

  5. Great list! I absolutely loved the Percy Jackson series! I haven't read Inkheart yet, but it's on my TBR list because I've heard it's a really good book!

    Here's my TTT

  6. You know Savvy gets checked out a lot in my Media Center! I've never read it. I'm probably the only person who wasn't a fan of A Wrinkle in Time though. I think I was too young when it was assigned and I hated it! Oh well, we all have different tastes! :) I'll have to snag Savvy one day!

  7. I've read most of these and I completely agree with you. Also, Savvy has been on my list for a long time. I think I might read this soon. :D
